Today was our second to last day of our J-Term. We started the morning off by watching a movie about Vincent Van Gogh. We also finished up our presentations about different impressionists today. After we finished the movie and the rest of the presentations people continued to work on their artworks. Chase continued to work on her 2000 piece puzzle with the help from others and got excited when she found the final edge piece. We then spent the majority of the afternoon at the museum of fine arts exploring the exhibit about French Peruvian Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin. Then we went to the Living with the Gods exhibit. Before we made our return to the school, we stopped by the cafe for a snack. Once we got back to school, the crew continued working on their art pieces.

Here is my blog for today we started the day by finishing off the docuseries we have been watching about impressionists, this episode was about Seurat, pointillism, and Monet. after we heard some of our final presentations of our students' artist profiles, we learned about Manet and Monet (yes two different, influential painters). we were given time to work on our art pieces until we headed to a scrumptious lunch at Le Madeleine! This was followed by a lovely visit to Texas Art Supply and more time back at school for our work on art pieces and analysis!

Today, we started the day off by throwing ourselves right back into our previous projects - some students chose to work on their individual art pieces, others decided to continue our big puzzle, and some worked on their homework for the week. This is how we spent our focused morning, along with some great jams and delicious snacks to accompany. After taking a lunch break, we decided to spend the afternoon mingling and continuing work on our personal projects. The time dedicated for us to work on these projects allowed us to fully explore our creative potential by brainstorming ideas, working collaboratively, and apply our creativity into multiple projects (as well as, of course, working on assigned projects in school instead of at home). Plenty of students dedicated their time to painting, while some worked tirelessly on our puzzle (with the help of some friends outside our term), and others chose to focus on research for our art analysis essay. Overall, we had another fun and es...

Today we watched a documentary, painted our canvas, tried doing puzzles, and some of us presented our presentations. We started the day by watching a documentary called The Impressionists for around an hour, learning about the meanings of Edgar Degas's art and statues and how that set him apart from others. Then some of us presented our presentations on impressionist artists, Claire taught us about Van Gough and Carson taught us about James Whistler. As presentations ended lunch had started and so we all dispersed. Until class started again in which we just worked on our art and puzzles for a few hours. Imaar came to visit and made Claire scream which ticked off Mr. Wadzeck and had him a bit angry and Dr Cobos to knock on the wall. As it turned 3:20 Mr. Wadzeck told everyone to start cleaning up and we all dispersed.

Today was a productive day. We finished up our presentations on the impressionist artist we chose. Once we finished working we continued on our paintings until lunch. Mr. Wadzeck bought some ingredients for the french sandwiches we made. For lunch we made our sandwiches and they were delicious. We spent some time cleaning up our classroom and the west commons. Lots of people were doing puzzles. I finished up my painting of a teacup today using oil paints. I started a new painting using watercolor of a sunset on the beach. We used the remainder of our time together presenting our chosen artists. We didn’t have time to get through everyone so we hope to finish up next week.

Today marked the third day of the Monet Van Gogh J-Term. The previous day we had started painting using oil paints and this morning many of us picked up where we left off to make further progress within our paintings. Others continued to make art pieces using different mediums such as colored pencils. New watercolor paints were also brought into the classroom for any classmates who would like to explore that medium further. After working on our art pieces we left the school around noon to walk over to the art museum to observe the many impressionist painting they had on display there. Once we arrived we saw many impressionist paintings, including pieces done by Monet himself. As we observed the artwork, we were instructed to take photos of art pieces we found interest in and would want to write our art analysis over. We then sat down for a while to sketch many of the paintings that we saw. After this, we walked over to the cafe within the art museum and from there, walked back to...

Day 2 and learning about oil pastels and the Impressionists Today was a productive and engaging day filled with creativity and exploration. The morning began with a relaxed start as everyone settled in and participated in a variety of activities. From working on puzzles to sketching and enjoying some snacks, the atmosphere was calm and inviting—a perfect way to ease into the day.   Later, we turned our attention to the second episode of The Impressionists , titled The Great Outdoors . The documentary provided fascinating insights into the techniques and inspirations of the Impressionist movement, particularly their innovative approach to capturing natural light and landscapes. It was a thought-provoking experience that set the tone for our creative work. Inspired by what we learned, we transitioned into a hands-on session with oil pastels. The group explored blending techniques and experimented with color to produce vibrant works of art. While the session was largel...

On the first day of our Monet Van Gogh J-Term, we were introduced to what the course would look like. Our instructor explained that this course would consist of various activities! We would be introduced to the history of the Impressionist era, how Impressionism was started, and what life of the artists was during this revolutionary rebellion in art history.  First, we started off with a presentation introducing what Impressionism was, where it was originated, and the meaning behind the art made during the time period. We learned that Impressionism was a critique of the uprising of the Church in France. The artists that created art during this time did not intend to add meaning, but to make money as well as to tell stories from the Catholic Bible. The “Impressionists” get their name from the lack of popularity they had during the 18th century, where traditional critiques would say their art looked “unfinished”, “sloppy”, or “just an impression” of the chosen figure.  Af...
