Monday

 Today we watched a documentary, painted our canvas, tried doing puzzles, and some of us presented our presentations. We started the day by watching a documentary called The Impressionists for around an hour, learning about the meanings of Edgar Degas's art and statues and how that set him apart from others. Then some of us presented our presentations on impressionist artists, Claire taught us about Van Gough and Carson taught us about James Whistler. As presentations ended lunch had started and so we all dispersed. Until class started again in which we just worked on our art and puzzles for a few hours. Imaar came to visit and made Claire scream which ticked off Mr. Wadzeck and had him a bit angry and Dr Cobos to knock on the wall. As it turned 3:20 Mr. Wadzeck told everyone to start cleaning up and we all dispersed.

  Today was our second to last day of our J-Term. We started the morning off by watching a movie about Vincent Van Gogh. We also finished up our presentations about different impressionists today. After we finished the movie and the rest of the presentations people continued to work on their artworks. Chase continued to work on her 2000 piece puzzle with the help from others and got excited when she found the final edge piece. We then spent the majority of the afternoon at the museum of fine arts exploring the exhibit about French Peruvian Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin. Then we went to the Living with the Gods exhibit. Before we made our return to the school, we stopped by the cafe for a snack. Once we got back to school, the crew continued working on their art pieces.

  On the first day of our Monet Van Gogh J-Term, we were introduced to what the course would look like. Our instructor explained that this course would consist of various activities! We would be introduced to the history of the Impressionist era, how Impressionism was started, and what life of the artists was during this revolutionary rebellion in art history.  First, we started off with a presentation introducing what Impressionism was, where it was originated, and the meaning behind the art made during the time period. We learned that Impressionism was a critique of the uprising of the Church in France. The artists that created art during this time did not intend to add meaning, but to make money as well as to tell stories from the Catholic Bible. The “Impressionists” get their name from the lack of popularity they had during the 18th century, where traditional critiques would say their art looked “unfinished”, “sloppy”, or “just an impression” of the chosen figure.  Af...

  Today, we started the day off by throwing ourselves right back into our previous projects - some students chose to work on their individual art pieces, others decided to continue our big puzzle, and some worked on their homework for the week. This is how we spent our focused morning, along with some great jams and delicious snacks to accompany. After taking a lunch break, we decided to spend the afternoon mingling and continuing work on our personal projects. The time dedicated for us to work on these projects allowed us to fully explore our creative potential by brainstorming ideas, working collaboratively, and apply our creativity into multiple projects (as well as, of course, working on assigned projects in school instead of at home). Plenty of students dedicated their time to painting, while some worked tirelessly on our puzzle (with the help of some friends outside our term), and others chose to focus on research for our art analysis essay.
